About US

Welcome!

At Listen India, our mission is to raise awareness for Newborn Hearing Screening so every baby is screened for hearing loss at birth.

Many newborn babies in our country are not yet screened for hearing loss at birth. Since the ear of a baby with hearing loss looks just like that of a normal hearing baby, hearing loss can go unnoticed for months, or even years. By the time parents observe delays in speech or language, it is often too late and the period for developing good speech and language may have already passed. Growing up, these children face lifelong challenges in communication, learning, and social development.

However, there is hope! Research shows that when babies born with hearing loss are diagnosed before 3 months and receive appropriate treatment and support before 6 months, they can develop speech and language skills that are normal for their age.

This mission began with a personal experience.

Dr. Jennie DK Kapadia, Au.D., CCC-A, is a pediatric audiologist based in the United States. Her two nephews, born in Mumbai, India, did not receive the newborn hearing screening test at birth. Like many parents, her family was unaware that such a test even existed. This brought her attention to the lack of awareness and inspired her to start this resource.

Dr. Kapadia earned her Doctor of Audiology (Au.D.) from Salus University in Pennsylvania, U.S.A. she is recognised as the Academy Scholar for the Year 2025 by the American Academy of Audiology. She has worked extensively with children with hearing loss and their families at Northwell Health, Long Island Jewish Medical Center in New York, USA. Through Listen India, she hopes to empower parents and other health care practitioners so no baby with hearing loss is left behind.

We hope this website provides you with the knowledge and confidence to take the first step— whether you’re a parent, caregiver, or healthcare professional. We kindly invite you to share this resource with others in your community.
